How can I transfer my VHS to DVD without buying those expensive recorders?

I have an collection of vhs films and do not wish to purchase those recorders. Any ideas from someone as I am not to technical about computers and have a Latitude D600 laptop.

Look on the internet for a company near you that does transfers; if you only have a few it will be a lot cheaper than buying a VHS/DVD recorder.
